In the Spotlight - Patti Miller
by Meghan Clark
A consummate professional and a regular at our EAC meetings, Patti Miller was kind enough to share her personal life with us so we could get to know her better.
Like the places she has lived, Patti is bright and sunny. She is another native daughter of Southern California, born and raised in beautiful Pasadena, California. After college she married and her husband's service in the Air Force took them to London for four (4) years.
When they returned to the states, Patti became a stay at home mom to their daughter and son and maintained an active civic life with the Jaycettes and South Coast Juniors.
After the family was transferred to Phoenix, Patti channeled her beam of sunshine and passion for the arts toward volunteering with a local PBS station in Phoenix. She organized and assisted PBS pledge drives for the local affiliate and served as a behind the scenes tour guide for school kids.
By the time her own children went to college, Patti was ready to return to the workforce and found herself with a personnel agency in Arizona. Like most uber-competent women, the job duties seemed to expand the longer Patti worked there and after ten (10) years, the position evolved into a Human Resources/Legal job. Then, thirteen (13) years ago, a friend convinced Patti she was perfect for an open Human Resources position at JonesTrading.
After cooking in the Arizona heat for so many years, Patti was certainly open to a valiant return to Southern California and decided to give it a shot. Now almost thirteen (13) years later, JonesTrading has grown from 44 employees to close to 200 and is an international operation with ten (10) branch offices in the United States and two offices abroad.
Patti loves traveling. Recent trips include Las Vegas and Phoenix. Aside from spending time with her assets (the kids) and her dividends (grandkids), she traveled to the Kennedy Space Center and to watch the Discovery Space Shuttle launch. She is currently planning an Alaskan Cruise in August with her daughter.
Civic awareness has always been a mainstay in Patti's life. Her life now is no different despite her busy schedule. Patti is active in our local arts programs. She is a season ticket holder for the Broadway Series at the Civic Arts and the Hollywood Bowl. She supports Alliance for the Arts and "TheaterRocks" which allows disadvantaged youth access to the theatre.
Any time leftover is spent on college basketball and football, and Patti says "I never turn down a good day of shopping with my girlfriends!!!"
Patti has been a member of the EAC for as long as she has been with JonesTrading. She received a flyer for a Jon Light seminar in her early years at JonesTrading. She says that EAC is a great resource because if you ever have an employment question, there are a lot of people associated with the organization who you can call. Patti is also serving on the committee organizing the upcoming CEAC conference in May 2009. She is the epitome of the phrase "if you want something done, ask a busy person."
Thank you Patti for sharing a little of the sunshine in your life with us.
